Company History
In 1954, Erich Jaeger founded a sales agency which delivered specialized devices to university hospitals. In these days, however, he had not been aware, that he had laid the cornerstone for an internationally recognized company which today has 5 subsidiaries and 52 distribution agencies. Already in 1956 he started to manufacture electrically controlled bicycle ergometers. As ergometry is closely related to a subjects condition, he decided to produce pulmonary function diagnostic equipment in 1958.

In 1963, the first industrially-produced body plethysmograph and in 1965, the first complete laboratory for lung function diagnostics were introduced. The first microprocessor systems were finally used in 1978.

The interdisciplinary nature of pulmonary function diagnostics was the final impulse for the takeover of the Toennies KG, a company with residence in Freiburg, Germany, which has been concerned with the development of electrophysiological equipment since 1937. What was started by Jan Friedrich Tonnies almost 60 years ago, has been logically and consistently sophisticated under the new management. The water sealed spirometers developed by JAEGER soon conquered the young market. The Universal-Bodytest, which was introduced in 1962, was the main prerequisite for a pioneering innovative system in the field of pulmonary function diagnostics. It was the basis for a scientific advancement of computerised bodyplethysmography

Since 2001 JAEGER is part of VIASYS Healthcare Inc. The individual groups combine the advantages of all companies to the benefit of our customers.
