The triple precise pressure catheter has been especially designed for measuring pressure trends required for assessing motor response and occlusion function of the oesophagus. Simultaneously, it measures pressure in the tubular part of the oesophagus, in the gastro-oesophageal high-pressure area or in the stomach. This method provides the ability to measure the entire pressure profile from the lumen of the stomach to the cardiac orifice. It furthermore allows for the definition of linear expansions, for example of the lower high-pressure area. In the field of polysomnography, oesophagus pressure is measured in order to differentiate between obstructive, mixed and central apneas and hypopneas.
